Decade-long road misery for Lindara Park residents

A Lindara Park resident says she is ‘disgusted’ by how developers have left the road outside her house, leading to injuries and vehicle damage.

Paula Stewart bought the house 10 years ago, before the development was completed by contractors EASSDA.

She claims that the company delayed road building for five years, citing problems with sewers, before going into administration.

Paula told The Times: “In our contracts it said that when the road is at a health and safety standard we would adopt responsibility for it, but it was never left at that standard. The administrators BDO keep putting me off and the Roads Service say it isn’t their responsibility. The Council doesn’t want to know as it’s not their property.”

Paula says that several members of her family have been injured on the road, including her daughter, who was forced to have a skin graft after a fall.

She continued: “I have had to change my car five times. The bin men originally wouldn’t come down here until they put down a layer of tarmac. You can still smell the sewage in our kitchen sinks and the drains are always blocking up. There are manholes which are raised above street level, a two-foot square manhole which is really deep lying open, and broken kerb stones.”

Mother-of-three Paula says that the situation has had an emotional and economic impact on her family. She added: “I am self employed and my customers don’t want to drive down the road. It’s stressful, and I am heart-scared of a child falling into that manhole. It’s going to take someone being seriously hurt until something is done.”
