The court heard that approximately at 8.30pm in Church Place, Lurgan, Dickson was stopped driving a car, police checks revealed no insurance was in place.

Dickson said he had not yet swapped his insurance from his old vehicle to his new vehicle.

A barrister representing the defendant said he involved himself in buying and selling a number of vehicles. He added that on this occasion he was mistaken in the belief that he had insured this vehicle.

The lawyer said that Dickson required a vehicle to collect his daughter who had medical issues and had to attend hospital.

District Judge, Mr Mervyn Bates, said the defendant had previously been disqualified on the totting up system and now had three points on his licence.

Imposing eight points Judge Bates told Dickson he was ‘a whisker away’ from another disqualification.
