Defendant's third time in court for driving offences

A Ballyclare woman caught driving at 91mph in a 60mph zone at the Frosses Road near Ballymena has been warned by a judge there will come a time when she exhausts the patience of the court.

District Judge Peter King was speaking at Ballymena Magistrates Court on Thursday where Rebecca Kirk (25), of Hamlet Gardens, admitted speeding. She was detected on August 14 last year.

Defence solicitor David McIlrath said traffic was light at the time and the offence happened at a ‘creeper’ lane.

Judge King said it was Kirk’s third time in court for driving offences which included one careless driving and two speeding detections.

He said three points had expired from her licence but there were still six points on it and he added five more.

He told her she was 30mph over the limit as he fined her £300.

The judge said the defendant was one penalty point away from a six months disqualification.
