Defibrillator for Ulidia

A Carrickfergus school has taken possession of a piece of life-saving equipment thanks to the spelling power of pupils.

The Geography department at Ulidiia Integrated College presented principal Eugene Martin with a defibrillator after its annual spellathon.

The event raised over £800, bringing the total over the last five years to more thank £4000.

In a statement, the school added: “This has been donated to a variety of causes including Mencap, Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice as well as local charities.

“William Telford of Year 10 (Year 11 in September 2014) raised a huge amount of money this year and so was the winner of the overall prize. However, a massive thank-you must be given to all of the pupils, staff and parents who contributed in every way to help the school purchase this vital piece of equipment.”
