Cllr Lockhart said “This idea was brought to my attention following the death of a young girl (28) in County Fermanagh after using a treadmill in a local gym.

“I was stunned by this sudden passing and believe that as a result we as a council need to do more to ensure that this life saving equipment is available in all our public buildings and also feel it would be an excellent public exercise to make a grant available to help groups in the purchase of a Defib that could potentially save many lives.

“I have requested that the Council work with the British Heart Foundation to make grants available and promote this initiative.

“We have started the investigations into this provision, however, I am determined that Council step up to the plate in this regard.”
