Delay in Council’s recruitment of new Brooke Park design team

DERRY City Council are behind schedule in their bid to find a new design team to complete the regeneration of Brooke Park following the decision of Chris Blandford Associates (CBA) to pull out of the project earlier this year.

In July the Sentinel reported how consultancy firm CBA said it was not interested in proceeding beyond the current stage of the regeneration scheme.

The Council was forced to find a new design team after CBA wrote in May saying it felt a Northern Ireland based company would be better equipped to take the project forward.

A report by the Town Clerk to the Environmental Services Committee in July expressed hope that a new design team would be in place by mid September 2011 with a view to still meeting the on-site start date of early spring 2012.

But there appears to have been some slippage in recruiting a new design team to complete the regeneration.

The Council has invited a tender from a Landscape Architect (Historic Parks) led multi-disciplinary design team to undertake Work Stages F-L and project manage the regeneration of Brooke Park on site with a deadline of November 11 for applications.

Work is scheduled to begin at the historic park in March 2012.
