Delight for Dunclug as results rise

Almost one third of all grades achieved were in the A* - B range. Almost 60% of grades for GCSE English and Maths were in the A – C range and most importantly, almost half of all pupils achieved seven or more A – C grades, including English and Maths.

Ninety-eight per cent of pupils gained five or more grades in the A–E range and for 88% of them this included both English and Maths. All pupils achieved at least 5 GCSE passes.

Improvement in success is apparent in all categories from seven to 14% and in many cases exceeds our expectations, principal Mrs Ruth Wilson said.

She added: “This cohort of pupils has benefited from strategies devised to raise standards since they started in junior school, and it is rewarding for the teaching staff to see their faith in the pupils so well rewarded.”

Top achiever was Samuel Wilson with eight A* grades, an A and a B grade, followed by Mark Crawford with an A*, four A grades and five B grades and Thomas Bell with twp A* grades, three A grades three B grades and a C grade,

Other significant individual performances were achieved by Craig Dalton, Lewis Erwin, Robert Erwin, Sarah Hamilton, Claire Herbison, Scott Kennedy, Alison Marshall, Lauren McAleese, Adam McClintock, Emma McKay, Evan McLeister, Gail McCullough, Matthew McNeill, Anthony McWhirter, Jordan Millar, Charis Montgomery, Matthew Moorhead, Jaylin Sloan, Richard Sloan, Aaron M Weir, Alison Thompson, and Rebecca Whyte.

The following subject areas were congratulated for achieving 100% success in Grades A – C: Additional Mathematics, English Literature, Double Award Science, Performing Arts, French, History, DA Horse Care, DA Agriculture and Construction. Other high achievements at Grades A – C included: Child Development 95%, BCS – 90%, Applied Business 88%, ICT 84%, TD 77%, Home Economics 73%, Engineering and RE 67%, Media Studies 63% and MVRUS 62%.

Mrs Wilson thanked the teaching staff for “inspiring the confidence to achieve, and delivering a quality of teaching which both challenges and enables the pupils”.

She also congratulated the young people on their commitment and thanked their parents for unfailing support.

“As a staff, we are pledged to help every pupil achieve or exceed his/her potential, which is not an easy task, and we are absolutely delighted for this bunch of young  people.”
