Delivery driver robbed at gunpoint in Carrick

Detectives are appealing for information following an armed robbery of a delivery driver in Carrick last night, Sunday February 19.

The delivery driver was approached by two men in the Fergus Court area.

One of the men was believed to be holding a gun which he pointed at the van driver and demanded money, shortly before 9.40 pm.

He’s described as being just under 6 ft tall and was wearing black gloves, a black jacket and a balaclava. The second man was wearing a grey hoody and carrying a long blade.

The man with the gun smashed a back window of the van taking a box with a sum of money in it. Both men then fled in the direction of the Sunnylands area.

The delivery driver was not physically hurt but has been left badly shaken.

Inspector Martin Ruddy said: “This was a very frightening incident for the delivery driver who was providing a service to the local community and I would appeal to anyone with information to make that available.”

Police are appealing for witnesses of the incident to contact them at Carrickfergus PSNI Station on the non-emergency number 101 quoting 1181 of the 19/02/2017.
