Deluge of visitors expected for Irish Open

A recent survey undertaken by Causeway Coast and Glens Tourism Partnership has shown that accommodation providers are expecting a massive influx of visitors for the Irish Open Golf Tournament at Royal Portrush at the end of June.

“The area has a great range of good value accommodation still available and we are looking forward to welcoming large crowds of staying visitors not just to enjoy the golf but also to enjoy the wonderful attractions and hospitality in the area,” said Diane Poole OBE, Chairman of Causeway Coast and Glens Tourism.

Alan Clarke, Chief Executive of the Northern Ireland Tourist Board said: “The success of our local golfers has drawn great attention to Northern Ireland as a golf destination and there has been an unprecedented demand from overseas press and travel trade to visit.

“We’ve also seen a steep rise in visiting golf journalists over the last year. The return of the Irish Open is a major coup for the north coast and the whole of Northern Ireland.

“With plans already in place for a series of high profile events to move the tourism industry to the heart of the economic development, providing a steady flow of good news for Northern Ireland throughout 2012, the Irish Open will provide a further confidence boost to the industry”.

The region is providing good value accommodation in all sectors with bed and breakfast available from £25, self catering cottages from £350 per week and hotels from £45pps.
