Dementia Roadshow stopping in Mid Ulster next week

Funded by the Alzheimer’s Society, experts on their national tour will park up at Asda, Cookstown on Tuesday (September 20) from 10am-4pm before heading to Maghera on Wednesday (September 21), where they will lower their anchor in Lurach’s Road carpark (behind Crawford’s supermarket).

The roadshow, which offers free information and advice, aims to increase awareness and understanding of dementia, as well as helping to promote the benefits of an early diagnosis.

Open to people currently living with dementia, or those who are worried about a friend or relative’s memory, no appointment is needed. Just drop by.

Adrian Friel, Alzheimer’s Society services manager for the northern area said: “Dementia is one of the biggest health and social care challenges of our generation, yet it continues to be a condition blighted with stigma and lack of understanding.

“This can mean people who are worried about dementia in some way, or simply want to find out more may not know where to turn.”

“The Dementia Community Roadshow is the perfect way to get that information and support out to the people who need it.

“We’re here to provide people with information about where to get help and encourage those with concerns about their memory to visit their GP.”

First launched in 2011, the roadshow has already made a big difference to the lives of people across Northern Ireland, England and Wales reaching more than 158,000 people in its four years on the road.

The current tour of Northern Ireland is also due to visit, among other places, Junction One in Antrim on September, 22 and 23.
