Denis on his bike for charity again

ONCE again Denis Broderick, from Mayogall, Magherafelt, is on his bike to raise money for the National Deaf Children's Society.

Previous charity fundraising cycles have included Mizen to Malin, and across America – yes, all 3,000 miles.

This time, if the training pays off, starting at the end of September, Denis plans to cycle the 1000 miles from Land’s End to John O’Groat’s. The route has been described as “undulating”: definitely a case of Onwards and Upwards!

Denis, as a hearing aid user, would love to ‘hear’ of offers of support for deaf children, saying: “I need the public to help me help them.”

Statistics show that during the twelve-day trip 36 children will be born deaf in the UK – most of them to parents with no previous history of deafness in the family.

An undiagnosed deaf three-year-old knows 25 words, compared with the 700 word vocabulary of a hearing child the same age.

As the NDCS is funded almost entirely through donations from the public, Denis is hoping you can help him reach his personal fundraising target of 3,000.

Meanwhile this Saturday (August 28), Denis will attempt to cycle 100 miles ‘on the spot’ in Meadow Lane Shopping Centre, Magherafelt
