Department has rethink over timescale for resurfacing project

Local residents had been told that the much-needed work was unlikely to happen for three years. But following a recent site meeting involving Transport NI officials, Paula Bradley MLA and a Carnmoney Road resident, a DRD spokeswoman confirmed that: “Carnmoney Road has been reassessed by Transport NI and is now included in our 2015-16 resurfacing programme, subject to funding.”

The local resident, who didn’t want to be named, said: “This is really good news. Obviously we would have liked the work done immediately, but we have to be realistic. They said they will be looking to get the work done sometime within the next 18 months, which is a real improvement on the three years they originally told us it could take.”

Ms Bradley, a DUP MLA for the area, added: “I am delighted to have received confirmation that Carnmoney Road is to be included in the resurfacing programme for 2015-2016. This represents a considerable shift in position and I believe recognises the very poor state of the road infrastructure in this area at present. This work will include resurfacing of both the road carriageway and footpaths and will greatly enhance the area.

“I know that local residents are very pleased with this outcome.”
