Ms Seeley’s comments followed her attendance at a balloon launch by PIPS Upper Bann to mark World Suicide Prevention Day.

Cllr Seeley said, “It is important that during suicide prevention week everyone takes stock and recognises that we all have a role to play in preventing suicide. The PIPS slogan of ‘suicide is everyone’s business’ is particularly relevant and as public representatives it is important that we take action and do what we can to raise awareness.”

She concluded, “Praise and recognition must be given to PIPS for organising the balloon launch in memory of those who are no longer with us and also for the work that they, and other organisations, provide to families and individuals on a daily basis. It is vital that the work around suicide prevention and mental health continues. We need to tackle stigma and ensure the right services are properly resourced. My colleagues and I, intend to play our part in the council and the Assembly.”
