Dermot McLaughlin suspended from Temple Bar post

Dermot McLaughlin, the man drafted as the Project Director for UK City of Culture in Londonderry, but who resigned for ‘personal reasons’ in March from the 120,000 plus Euro role, has this morning been suspended from his role as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at Temple Bar Cultural Trust (TBCT).

Mr McLaughlin had returned to his role as CEO of TBCT just one week ago on May 7, having taken a period of annual leave following his departure from his City of Culture role and the resumption of his job at TBCT.
As yet, Dublin City Council, the sole shareholder of TBCT have merely confirmed that Mr McLaughlin has been suspended from TBCT but have not given any specific reasons for the suspension.
A statement in relation to the move from Dublin City Council received by the Londonderry Sentinel a short while ago said: “Dublin City Council has been informed that following a board meeting of temple Bar Cultural trust, Dermot McLaughlin was suspended with pay pending an investigation by the board. That is the extent of the information Dublin City Council has at present.
However, the Sentinel understands that the board meeting at which the decision to suspend Mr McLaughlin took place yesterday, Sunday, May 12, 2013.
On March 13 past the Londonderry Sentinel highlighted the details of an internal Dublin City Council audit report which revealed series flaws in the financial governance of TBCT and details of a previous audit-The Latitude Report-which also scrutinised the monetary practices at the Dublin based cultural regeneration company. Although, some of the findings of the Latitude Report were heavily disputed by the then board of TBCT and no blame for the flaws was apportioned to any individual working at TBCT were the financial examinations were carried out.
Mr McLaughlin was seconded to his role as Project Director for the UK City of Culture via an agreement between his employer TBCT, the Strategic Investment Board in Belfast and Derry City Council.
Mr McLaughlin described himself as a ‘cultural lynch pin’ on his return to his native city in October 2012, but departed the role just five months later in March, 2013.
