Derriaghy to host Twelfth

A total of 68 lodges from seven districts and 30 bands and drumming parties will take part in the procession marking the 325th anniversary of the Battle of the Boyne.

The parade will assemble at Mossside Road, close to Derriaghy Cricket Club at 11am and will move off at 11.30am sharp in the following order - Derriaghy, Lisburn, Hillsborough, Aghalee, Glenavy, Magheragall and Ballinderry.

Pavements along the 1.7 mile route to the demonstration field at Fullerton Park are expected to be packed with spectators as the parade transforms Dunmurry into a colourful sea of flags and banners.

Platform proceedings will commence at 2pm and will be chaired by Wor Bro Noel Agnew, Wor District Master of Derriaghy District No 11.

A religious service will be conducted by Wor Bro Rev David McCarthy, Deputy County Grand Chaplain, and the address will be given by Bro Rev Stephen Walker, Pastor of New Cumnock Evangelical Church, Scotland, and Chaplain of Lambeg LOL 138.

Resolutions will be proposed by Most Worthy Sister Christine Calvert, a past Grand Mistress of Scotland; Wor Bro Maurice Kirkwood, County Grand Treasurer, and Wor Bro William Thompson, County Grand Secretary.

The guest speaker on the afternoon will be the Grand Master of England, Right Worshipful Bro Ron Bather, who will be making his first visit to the South Antrim demonstration, Following the platform proceedings, the return parade through the village will move off at 4.15pm led by next year’s hosts, Lisburn District No 6, who will march back to Lisburn Orange Hall.

The rest of the districts will disperse at Queensway beyond Derriaghy Orange Hall, where their buses will be parked for the homeward journey, Car parking is available at Belfast Bible College, Glenburn Road South at £5 (all proceeds from this car park being donated to charity).

There are approximately 140 spaces and is located just 300m from the demonstration field.

There is also limited parking in the demonstration field costing £5 and at the assembly field at Queensway for £3.

Private Lodge catering vehicles must be displaying the correct permit and be in the demonstration field by 10.30am.

There is a charge of £5 for a car parking permit for elderly or disabled individuals, Motorists are advised to access Dunmurry via Drumbeg and Dunmurry lane as traffic diversions will be in place on Kingsway and Queensway due to morning feeder parades.

Lisburn District LOL No 6 will be leaving Lisburn Orange Hall at 10am to walk to the Assembly Field at Mossvale Road. The District will hold a parade around the city centre before making their way along the Belfast Road to Derriaghy,

Dunmurry True Blues LOL 1046 will be parading through the village at 10.30am on their way to the assembly point.

Derriaghy District would ask that all members of the public intending to travel to the demonstration field leave plenty of time to get there and co-operate with marshals and the PSNI.

They would also remind parade participants and spectators that the consumption of alcohol on the parade route and in the demonstration field is not permitted. Police officers will be in place to enforce this legislation.
