Derrytresk mental health nurse overwhelmed by response to her story

A Derrytresk mental health nurse whose work was featured at the Labor Notes conference in the US, is overwhelmed by messages of support after the TIMES published her story.

Patricia Campbell hopes the response will help create discussion on the impact of war and trauma on mental health and suicide prevention.

Speaking from Chicago, Patricia told the TIMES: “When we took part in the health care workers discussion and debate the issue of veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan with PTSD came up. I was able to speak on the subject given that my essay is centred around the need for a model of care for our own traumatised people. The over-riding theme was not just more services but more “quality” services.”

Patricia said she was delighted with the many messages she had received following the story in last week’s issue.

“I couldn’t believe the response and good wishes I received on Facebook. Hopefully we will get our message out and a much needed discussion and debate on the subject.”

Patricia’s work was launched as part of a publication by leading psychotherapist and author Susan Rosenthal.
