'Dervock is an inspiration'

Working in collaboration with Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, The Ministerial Advisory Group for Architecture and the Built Environment (MAG) has described recent visits to Dervock as 'inspirational'.

Chair of MAG, Mr Arthur Acheson, said that he and his colleague have been overwhelmed by the knowledge of people about their local area and its history, geography, civic pride and connections to the wider world.

Mr Alwyn Riddell, also of MAG continued: “I have never come across so much local knowledge in a small area. Every place is different – and rightly so! People know their places. Dervock’s people bring special talents and skills that are unique to the place.”

After only two sessions of the six week ward vision, which MAG is assisting people to prepare for Dervock Ward, special passions have been demonstrated in volunteering, bowling, civic pride sociability, neighbourliness, fishing, knitting, crafts, local history and football.

The ward vision is already considering creative ways to celebrate traditions, improve mobile phone signals and enhance river quality.

Dervock is planning to celebrate its tradition of Fairs in the new community centre from 2-5pm on 19th March. For more information, visit the Facebook page “Dervock & District History” or email [email protected]
