DERVOCK - Our Time to Shine

The London 2012 Organising Committee has revealed the streets along which the Olympic Torch Flame will be carried as it journeys around the UK.

The village of Dervock will welcome the Olympic Torch Flame on Sunday 3rd June as it makes it way from Ballycastle to the village and onwards from Dervock to Bushmills and Portrush.

Speaking after the official announcement Chair of Council’s Development Committee, Councillor John Finlay, commented: “It is fitting that the Olympic torch should come to Dervock as the village celebrates the 100th anniversary of the victory of Kennedy K McArthur, the former postman from Dervock, in the 1912 Olympic Games, with a festival of culture and sport organized by Council and the Dervock and District Community Association and Springwell running Club. We look forward to seeing his medals and trophies from South Africa in Ballymoney Museum’s exhibition, the play about his life and the festival of running”.
