Desertmartin marks Queen’s Jubilee with tree-planting

They planted trees provided by Woodland Trust in the village to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. The saplings will provide natural colour and help support local wildlife.

The Woodland Trust aims to plant 6 million trees in total through 2012 to mark the Queen’s diamond jubilee. All free tree packs contain an exclusive oak sapling which has been grown from an acorn gathered from a royal estate such as Sandringham or Windsor.

Desertmartin Community Group said the tree planting is a fantastic way to celebrate the occasion and will be a meaningful and lasting tribute to the Queen.

Victoria Hodson from the Woodland Trust said: “We are delighted that Desertmartin Community Group and Desertmartin PS are using are scheme to plant more trees in Desertmartin.

Communities are transforming their neighbourhoods and providing new homes for wildlife. This year we are offering more trees and would love more communities to get involved. With HRH the Princess Royal as Patron, the jubilee woods project is only one of a handful of projects to carry official royal approval.”
