A LOCAL councillor has described the attack on a 71-year-old pensioner, during which the man was tied up assaulted, as ‘despicable.’

The lone burglar made off with money following the aggravated burglary in the Priory Close area of Lambeg, which took place around 11.30pm on Sunday and left the victim with injuries to his head and face.

SDLP Lisburn City councillor Pat Catney has urged people with information on the incident to pass it onto the police.

Councillor Catney said: “This despicable attack took place in a quiet rural area outside of the city centre. It is very worrying for the whole community that these criminals have attacked someone so vulnerable.

“Thankfully, the victim didn’t receive any serious injuries; however, it’s difficult to tell how this robbery will impact emotionally on this elderly gentleman.

“The key to solving this crime lies within the local community and I appeal to anyone with information on this incident to pass it on to the PSNI.”

It was reported that at approximately 11.30pm the burglar got into the home of the pensioner, tied him up and assaulted him before making off with a sum of money.

Or, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.
