Development approved

ELEVEN new houses are to be built at Millbay after planners gave the go-ahead this week.

The application, by Lisduff Developments, proposed to demolish the premises at 49 Millbay Road and two partially-built dwellings to the rear, and replace them with eight semi-detached and three detached houses.

But concerns were raised at the latest meeting of the public services committee about the quality of the sewage system in the area.

Cllr Andy Wilson said there had been problems with the sewage system backing up during heavy rain and claimed there had been seven complaints from residents since March 2009.

However, planning officer Joy Hargie told members that a condition would be attached to the approval stating that the new houses were not to be inhabited until the sewage situation had been resolved.
