Devenney calls for Unionist unity

DUP Westminster candidate for Foyle, Alderman Maurice Devenney has called for unionist unity across Northern Ireland.

Speaking to the Londonderry Sentinel, Mr Devenney contended that the only way forward for Unionism was to act in a unified manner.

“I believe that the Ulster Unionist Party have a number of questions to answer in relation to the issue of Unionist unity. Were they ever serious about this in the past number of years. I hope that after this election, we can come together and work more closely.

“The pact in Fermanagh South Tyrone for example showed the way forward in terms of unity. There could have been the same arrangement in South Belfast, but now that opportunity has been lost. They will need to answer to the whole Unionist community on this.

“After this election is over, I hope there can be more unity in preparation for the next Assembly election,” he said.
