Devenney raises Internet speed issue

At the latest Environment and Regeneration Committee meeting of the Derry City and Strabane District Council, DUP Alderman Maurice Devenney raised the issue of poor Internet speeds for those in the rural area.

“I informed the committee that I have been inundated with complaints from rural dwellers and businesspeople regarding the slow Internet service currently being delivered,” he said.

“Rural dwellers feel they are being treated as second class citizens, which is unacceptable. It was agreed that the committee would invite representation from BT and Mr Jonathan Rose Director of Ofcom to give an update on what plans are in place for improving Internet speeds in the rural area.

“I look forward to the next meeting of the committee to raise the issues that constituents have brought to my attention over the issue in recent months. I believe investment is required to deliver a high quality, high-speed service to all those who reside and run businesses in the rural area.”
