Device left in Dunmurry

Sinn Féin Councillor for the Colin area, Stephen Magennis, slammed those responsible for leaving ‘a device’ at the Colin Road in Poleglass on Tuesday which he said has caused ‘significant disruption to the local community.’

He added: “This is a built up area with many people using a pathway nearby as a short cut which leads up to a school.

“So far the Footprints Women’s centre and its crèche, along with five family homes have had to be evacuated.

“Fortunately we have been able to get the Sally Gardens community centre open should anyone need it.

“This disruption is unacceptable and those who are responsible for this device need to explain to this community what it will achieve.”

Detective Inspector Stuart Griffin said: “This device had the capability to cause serious injury and was left in an open public area where anybody, including children, could have found it.

“I would ask anyone with information about this to contact their local police station on the non emergency number 101 or ring Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
