Dhu-Varren team supports Wig Walk

LADIES from Dhu-Varren estate in Portrush showed off their bright green wigs just before they embarked on the first Ulster Bank Wig Walk for Macmillan Cancer Support on Sunday.

Twenty-five people from the big hearted community association joined over 200 others taking part in the 5k walk in Belfast which kicked off at Ulster Bank headquarters in Donegall Square East and took in the Lagan towpath finishing with food and family entertainment in Botanic Gardens.

This is a brand new fund raising initiative by Ulster Bank and Macmillans, and they hope to develop it into a UK wide project similar to the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning which they hold each September.

Angela McDonald the Action Team said: “There is a great community spirit within the housing estate and people are keen to fund raise for such an important cause as so many families in the area have been affected by cancer.

“Our community house provides an extensive programme for residents including education training, health initiatives and fun activities, although our funding is due to end in September and if another funding stream does not become available we will close, we can still recognize the importance of fundraising for Macmillans. ”
