Diamond Jubilee festivities set for Dixon Park

LARNE’S Dixon Park is to host a day of entertainment for young and old alike to commemorate 60 years of the Queen’s reign.

Diamond Jubilee fever is set to sweep through the borough from Saturday, June 2 to Tuesday, June 5, with several community groups planning to organise street parties and other events in celebration of the anniversary.

And to mark the occasion in style, Dixon Park Residents’ Association has teamed up with Larne Drama Circle and Larne and District Historical Society to hold a free event in the park, which was restored to its former glory back in 2010 thanks to a £1 million regeneration project supported by Larne Council and the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF).

A range of family-friendly entertainment and activities will take place during the event, which is due to take place on Tuesday, June 5 from 11am. Larne Drama Circle and the Historical Society have also agreed to perform a special piece of living history in the park, which aims to be educational as well as entertaining.

The costs of the project are to be covered by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
