Did not know policy was lapsed

A Lurgan man who drove without having insurance did not know his policy had lapsed.

He was 38 year old John Charles Lyness, of Rectory Park, Lurgan, and last Friday at Craigavon Magistrates Court he was fined £125 for the offence.

As well he received six penalty point and was ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.

The court heard police saw him driving at Prospect Way in Lurgan on Appril 30 and when they carried out checks they found there was no insurance.

Lyness did produce a certificate of insurance but it was not valid.

A solicitor for the defendant said he was unaware at the time his insurance had lapsed.
