Diehard republican group vows to protest DPP meeting

DIEHARD republicans will this evening (Wednesday, November 24) picket a Londonderry District Policing Partnership (DPP) meeting to discuss home safety for older people in protest at what they describe as the continued harassment of republican families and their children.

The Londonderry branch of the 32 County Sovereignty Movement has issued a statement saying it will protest the meeting in the Guildhall.

The theme of tonight's DPP meeting is home safety for older people during the winter months.

Speaking ahead of tonights meeting Chairperson of the Londonderry DPP, Alderman Joe Miller stated: "I would encourage members of the public to attend all public meetings of the DPP.

"Public meetings provide local residents with the opportunity to pose policing questions to the Area Commander.

"I would particularly encourage older people to attend the meeting as the meeting will be of interest to them in terms of finding out what they should be doing to make their homes safer over the winter months.

"The meeting will also provide a platform for local residents to present their views on policing within the Council area. District Policing Partnerships have worked tirelessly to ensure that local people continue shape local policing."
