Digney seeking light for Crosskeys Road area

SINN Fein councillor Monica Digney has expressed her disappointment at the refusal by the Department of Regional Development to erect street lighting along the Crosskeys road from St Mary’s GAC to the Clooney Road junction.

Cllr. Digney said she recently met with a representative of the Department on site to push the case for lighting along that route.

“In my view, and certainly the view of local residents and the many people who use this stretch of road street lighting is required,” she said.

“This road is used by leisure walkers but also by people walking to and from the local GAC pitch and community centre and it can be very dangerous at night time.

“I’m extremely disappointed that the Department are determined to stick rigidly with their requirements for 10 dwellings along a 200 metres stretch of road,” said the SF Councillor.

“This requirement doesn’t allow for special circumstances in a rural community and I will be continuing to challenge this determination.

“I will also be investigating the possibility of providing a footpath along this stretch of road to enhance the safety of its users,” she said.
