Dinner to mark 70th anniversary

AS part of their 70th anniversary celebrations members of Dromore Cathedral Girls Brigade attended a Celebration Dinner for past members and current leaders in Brownlow Castle on Thursday evening.

In 1943 a group of girls’ met in a hall in Meeting Street. That night saw the beginning of the Dromore Cathedral Girls’ Brigade and since then many hundreds of girls have passed through the ranks and some in to leadership.

Mrs Leanne Teggart, present Captain of the company welcomed everyone to the event and in particular those who had travelled from as far away as Australia and Scotland.

The evening was an opportunity to recall many happy years spent in the Girls’ Brigade and to catch up with old friends. Two of those present from Australia and Scotland, Vera Forsythe and Hilary Clayton performed the cutting of the Birthday Cake.

A selection of old photographs on CD has been produced by the Company and was available on the night.

This event was one of many throughout the year celebrating the 70th year for all sections of the Company.

The Company was also pleased to have their President Mrs Vera Lowry with them on this occasion and thanked her for her support and guidance through the years.

The group of past members are keen to keep in touch and hope to meet again, in September.
