Disabled charges criticised

A local councillor hit out at council charges for disabled visitors to Carnfunnock in March 2000.

Cllr Bobby McKee said he was unhappy with a decision to increase parking charges at the country park.

New rules allowed people to park for a short length of time without having to pay.

They could then pay charges if they wished to park for longer.

He said that it was unrealistic for disabled people to be able to take advantage of this scheme.

The Democratic Unionist Party representative also hit out at the relocation of a taxi rank at Broadway, because the DOE had relocated it to a dropped kerb area, which was intended to allow disabled pedestrians easier access to and from the pavement.
