Disgust over illegal dumping at beauty spot

A LOCAL resident has expressed her “concern and disgust” after discovering rubbish illegally dumped at the beauty spot.

The local woman, who walks her dog daily to Belshaws Quarry Nature Reserve, said she was “disappointed at the total lack of disrespect shown to the local beauty spot”.

She continued: “Over the last eight years we have contended with burnt out cars and underage drinking, along with the constant level of rowdiness that also occurs alongside these events. We have almost learnt to put up with these incidents as they seem to be glossed over when we report them on a regular basis.

“However, over the last few weeks, the blatant illegal dumping has been increasing and ranges from current Sunday newspapers, horse manure and most recently, on Sunday February 19, garden waste consisting of old duvets, a children’s swimming pool and rubber rings along with the usual fast food containers, beer cans and smashed vodka bottles.

“These items are unsightly and more worryingly provide greater risks not only to the wildlife but to the cars and residents who use this road, and increasing the possibility of injuries to occur.”

Challenging those responsible, the woman added: “These people have gone to the trouble of loading their cars and trailers to go to a local beauty spot to dump these items, why not drive the 3.2 miles to the assigned free and legal local amenity dump?”
