Disorder at Somme: 3 in court

Two men and a woman have appeared in court, following disorder at the Battle of the Somme parade in Coleraine back on July 1.

They all face disorderly behaviour charges. Two pleaded guilty, whilst another was banned from being in the vicinity of a band parade until his case is reviewed. Appearing before District, Judge Una Boyd, was 47-year-old Veder McGill of Drumard Drive; 26-year-old Sammy Jo Murray of Kylemore Road and 36-year-old Alan Matthew Standfield of Westbourne Crescent.

The case against Stanfield was adjourned for five weeks ato allow CCTV footage to be reviewed, he was released on his own bail of £200 and banned from being at any band parades. Murray, who the court heard shouted abuse at officers during the incident, pleaded guilty to the offence. She was fined £165. McGill, who admitted the offence, is alleged to have shouted ‘Up the RA’ at officers. His case adjourned until September 1 for a pre sentence report to be prepared.
