Display marks50 years ofBorough status

A floral display, at Castle Gardens in Lisburn, marking 50 years of Lisburn City Council’s Borough Status, has been created by the Council’s Environmental Services Department.

The Mayor, Councillor Margaret Tolerton, came to see the display last week with fellow Elected Members and offered her congratulations to the Council’s gardeners who were there to meet the Members and talk them through the details of the complex plant arrangements, which, hot on the heels of preparations for the Royal Visit to Hillsborough in Bloom a few days earlier, had just been finished.

“This is very impressive work and shows a particular attention to detail,” said Mrs Tolerton.

“The Council’s floral displays are renowned for their precision and our gardening team has once again shown off their unique skills with the depiction of 50 years of history for Lisburn in flowers. Our 50th year has also been marked with a church service, held in March, and we see this period as a significant milestone in our history,” she added.

Councillor Jenny Palmer, Chair of the Environmental Services Committee, joined the Mayor and Councillor Pat Catney, Chairman of the Corporate Services Committee, and said: “Following the beautiful floral displays in Hillsborough, created for our Royal visit last week, I am delighted to see this aspect of our history so beautifully presented.

“We have a long and proud history in the City of Lisburn, which has grown from strength to strength, and I am very proud of this fantastic work. I would like to particularly thank our Gardening Team for their dedication and pride in their floral
displays.”

Councillor Pat Catney said: “This work shows a craft and creative flair and I would like to thank our gardeners for setting out so well our 50 years of history in such a prominent place which I hope many people will see, appreciate and enjoy.

“We are fortunate to have such committed employees who will go that extra mile to see a job done well. Congratulations to the team on another job very well done.”
