‘Disturbing’ tyre-slashing weekend incident in Moira

A tyre-slashing incident in Moira at the weekend has been described as deeply ‘disturbing’ by an MLA.

The DUP’s Jonathan Craig said he will be speaking to local police to try to establish what was behind the incident in which up to six cars at Rawdon Place had their tyres slashed.

The incident is believed to have occurred sometime between the evening of Friday April 18 and 9am on Saturday April 19. Police at Lisburn are investigating.

“Was this just wanton vandalism or was there more to it than that?” asked Mr Craig “I don’t know but whatever the circumstances I will be asking the police to investigate this as a matter of urgency.”

Councillor Alexander Redpath said, “This is a disgraceful attack in what is usually a very peaceful community. This is a built-up residential area where most people leave their cars out in the open. The idea that this sort of thing could happen will worry a lot of local people.

“I would urge anyone with any information to contact the PSNI immediately. This sort of crime is completely unacceptable and the best way of combatting it is for local communities to keep an eye out for one another.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Lisburn police on 101 or ring Crimestoppers and speak to someone anonymously on 0800 555 111.
