Diver urges vigilance after Waterside break-ins

Waterside SDLP Councillor Gerard Diver has urged people in the Chapel Road area of the Waterside to be vigilant after a break-in and another attempted break-in in Lower Violet Street on Sunday, December 27.

Speaking after the incidents occurred, Councillor Diver said: “It is particularly distressing to discover that people’s homes have been targeted by thieves over the Christmas period. There are added risks at this time of year due to people being away from home for periods of time visiting loved ones during the festive period. There is also an added attraction of Christmas presents for potential thieves.

“I would urge people to be extremely vigilant regarding any suspicious activity in their local area, and to ensure that all valuables are stowed away as safely as possible, out of sight for potential thieves.

“It is important that anyone who observed anything unusual in the Lower Violet Street area on the 27th, or who may have any information whatsoever about these incidents should contact the police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111”
