Diversity photos sought

BUDDING photographers keen to get their work featured in Derry City Council’s 2013 Spice of Life Diversity calendar are reminded that all entries must be submitted by September 12 to be in with a chance of selection.

The photography competition, organised by the Community Relations Section of Derry City Council, is an annual event aimed at encouraging community groups, schools or individuals to submit interesting images they may have of recent events, celebrations and activities for publication in the calendar.

The 12 winning photos will feature in the 2013 ‘Spice of Life’ calendar celebrating diversity in the Derry City Council area in a significant year for the city and district.

The free calendar will promote the message that our ‘Diverse City’ welcomes people from different communities, religions, cultures, traditions and identities. Last year we gave out 5000!

Entry forms for the competition are available online at http://www.derrycity.gov.uk/GoodRelations/Photo-Competition

Sue Divin, community relations officer with Derry City Council explained that there are two categories in the competition – ‘One City – Diverse Cultures’ – which is looking for images related to people in the local area celebrating diverse cultures, faiths and festivals such as St Patrick’s Carnival; the Maiden City Festival; Chinese New Year etc, while the second category - ‘Faces in Local Places’ is looking for lively snaps showing people in recognisable places in the city such as Statues, walls, famous buildings, parks, bridges.
