Do you know where your kids are at?

Following a recent spate of antisocial behaviour in Coleraine which included firefighters being attacked as they attended an incident, damage caused in Anderson Park and a group of visually impaired cyclists being pelted by balloons, the PSNI are calling on parents to take responsibility and check where their children are at.

The PSNI North Coast posted on their Facebook page: “Calling all parents, do you know where your children are?

“Unfortunately for many of you I already know the answer, ‘NO’

“If you did then the Fire Service would not be attacked attending calls, cyclists could travel in the knowledge they would not be pelted with objects and the destruction of one of the town’s most important recreation areas would not be happening.

“Antisocial behaviour is not acceptable and will not be tolerated. If your child is involved expect to hear from us and don’t be surprised when you get the call to say they have been arrested.

“Parents, you have a responsibility to know where your child is and what they are doing at all times, after all, they belong to you. Please take responsibility for your children and their behaviour. Coleraine belongs to all our residents and everyone should be able to enjoy our facilities and spaces safely’.

If you see any antisocial behaviour the PSNI advise that you report it to them. “We are the best first port of call for incidents that are happening there and then and that you feel may escalate into something more serious. Often what may seem like disorderly behaviour may actually be people committing crimes such as damaging property or fighting in the street.” If you are concerned, contact the police on 101.
