Dobson predicts high turn-out for election

Ulster Unionist candidate Jo-Anne Dobson is predicting a higher turn-out of voters in the Upper Bann Westminster election on May 7.

Mrs Dobson said that in the previous 2010 general election statistics for Upper Bann show that almost 45 per cent of local voters did not choose to exercise their democratic right at the ballot box.

“I am confident, however, by presenting a positive message to local people, that on May 7 this year Upper Bann constituency will have a much higher voter turn-out than in previous elections.

“I am absolutely delighted by the reception which I and my campaigning teams have received on the doorsteps across the constituency.

“In the Portadown, Banbridge and Lurgan areas I have received very encouraging signs, not just from those who have voted Ulster Unionist in the past but from people who say they are engaged by this election and will be voting for the first time.

“My campaign is based on a proven track record of delivery as an Ulster Unionist Assembly member at Stormont and hard work on issues including health, education and backing local business.

“I am totally focused on delivering a positive message to the doorsteps of this constituency, and a meaningful return to local people, if elected to Westminster .”

Mrs Dobson added: “I was born, brought up, and educated in Upper Bann – it is in my DNA - and I feel that is why I’m receiving a fantastic reception on the doorsteps, often from people who have chosen not to vote in previous elections.

“I sincerely believe the people of Upper Bann will vote out of hope and not out of fear on May 7.”
