Dog owner fined for failing to licence dogs

Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council recently took Kevin McBarron from Aghalee to court for failing to possess a valid licence for each of his three dogs.

Having ignored previous warnings from the Council Mr McBarron was prosecuted at Lisburn Magistrate’s Court and fined £100 for the each offence, a total of £300 and ordered to also pay £400 court costs and a summons fee of £44.

Councillor James Baird, Chairman of the Council’s Environmental Services Committee, said it is a legal requirement that any resident who owns a dog must hold a valid licence. The Council issues a reminder letter or email to all dog owners in advance of their renewal date.
