A statement issued on Tuesday (April 9) by Jenny McLaren, Sandra Snounou, Jillian Davis and Sheila Sloan thanked the committee for its “common sense” decision regarding a section of the council’s proposed new Dog Control Order, which could have seen a ban on dogs being exercised off the lead along the popular pedestrian and cycle route.

“We are delighted with the outcome of last night’s meeting and would like to thank all those councillors who supported the views of all dog walkers of the borough so eloquently and vociferously.

“In particular we would like to thank those councillors who worked so hard on behalf of responsible dog walkers, who would have been penalised had this order been adopted. Last night common sense prevailed and dog walkers now know that the council listens and responds accordingly,” the statement said.
