A LONDONDERRY sausage-maker will supply 44 supermarkets in Scotland under a new contract with retail giant ASDA.

But the supermarket giant has signed JDM to supply their Superior Irish Pork Sausages’ in stores across Scotland.

Brian McQuaid, sales manager at JDM said: “It was great working with ASDA so closely during the Supplier Development Academy - it gave us a deeper insight into how their business works and really helped build our company’s momentum for making even bigger leaps in the future.

“We’ve been working with ASDA for a few years now and are delighted to be taking this product, made with a traditional family recipe, to Scotland.”

Brian Conway, ASDA NI Local Buyer commented: “We’re delighted to have brought such a high quality Northern Irish product to Scottish Asda stores and it’s been performing well to date, just as expected.

“James Doherty’s sausages are made to a traditional Irish recipe but we think they’ll really catch on with our Scottish cousins. We might even see a new item on Scottish menus - the Ulster-Scots Fry!”

The North West producer started life in Londonderry 180 years ago and is currently run by the 6th generation of the Doherty family.

Mr McQuaid added: “It’s contracts like these which keep companies like ours growing, and working with a partner like Asda has been mutually beneficial.

“They aren’t afraid to invest in their suppliers and we’re grateful that they are so keen to work with local companies in the same way they would with large multinational companies.”
