The theft has been described as a ‘disaster’ by Club Chairman Hubert Watson.

The chairman left the club around noon on Monday of last week after cutting the grass with the new ride on mower which the club purchased last year.

But when the players turned up for training at tea time on Tuesday the break-in was discovered.

“The ride on mower was stolen and so was the strimmer,” said Hubert. “All the locks were broken in the container.

“They also broke into the boardroom where kitchen cupboards and other items were damaged.

“Overall the damage will cost us about £6,000.”

And to make matters worse the club has discovered they are not covered by insurance.

Said Hubert: “Unfortunately while we are covered with public liability and fire risk for the grandstand we are not covered for theft because there is no one there during the day.

“It is a disaster for the club.”

Now Dollingstown face the prospect of raising the money to cover the damage and the theft.

“We will just have to sit down and talk it through,” said Hubert. “It is a major problem for us.”

The matter has been reported to the local police who are investigating.

Police said: “Some time overnight between Monday, 30 September and Tuesday, 1 October, entry was forced to the premises on Dromore Road, Magheralin. A Kawasaki Strimmer, Viking MT6 127ZL ride on lawn mower and petrol push lawnmower were taken.”

Police are asking anyone with information to contact them on 0845 600 8000.
