Domestic dispute leads to custodial sentence

A COLERAINE man was given a custodial sentence following a domestic dispute with his father.

North Antrim Magistrates' Court heard that Christopher Campbell (35) from Windyhall Park, became embroiled in an argument with his father on October 15 last year after he returned home drunk.

Whilst arguing Campbell lifted a kitchen knife and attacked his father, who eventually managed to disarm him before the police arrived.

A solicitor said that Campbell, who made full admission to police, had been drinking all day and reacted angrily when he returned home after his father had asked him for house keeping money.

Court heard that because of accommodation difficulties Campbell had been in custody since the incident, but that he was now liaising with the Housing Executive to arrange suitable accommodation following his release.

In light of his time served District Judge, Jim McFarland, sentenced Campbell to concurrent one month jail terms for being armed with an offensive weapon and common assault.
