Dominic Kirwan returns home for special weekend in Omagh

The Summer means so many different things to so many people. For Omagh singer Dominic Kirwan though it means one thing - his annual Omagh weekend.

Fans of the entertainer from all over the UK, Ireland a farther afield will gather for an action packed weekend of music, song and dance as well as sample the Tyrone town’s famous hospitality all to be part of one of the biggest music weekends in the West.

The Silverbirch Hotel will be the base for a host of live performances and a glut of very special guests over this weekend of 24th-25th- and 26th of July with the Queen of Country Philomena Begley and one of the new up and coming singers Gerry Guthrie also playing a part.

The annual weekend that has now been going for several years has grown in popularity, the travelling fans of the Omagh man will take over the local hotel and fill local guest houses, providing a timely boost for the local hospitality economy and indeed several other entertainment centres will also feature over a hectic weekend that’s not for the faint hearted.

The action gets underway on the Friday with Dominic being joined on stage by his old friend Philomena Begley and the show like them all over the weekend is open to the dancing public with admission not just reserved for the visiting guests. Omagh’s Main Street complex will be the venue for the annual open air show and this year promises to be even bigger than before.

Dominic will be joined on stage by two of his sons Colm, just home from Nashville, Barry, the Pritchard family and two exciting new female vocalists Lisa McCrory and Kerry Fearon, both of whom were special guests during the Irish tour of Dominic and Mary Duff. That show gets underway at 2pm.

On Saturday night after the Town centre afternoon show Dominic will be joined by the exciting Gerry Guthrie and his band, again its pay on the door for the dancing public, there could also be a special guest or two on the night.

The weekend wraps up on Sunday afternoon with a show featuring Dominic and his band and once again there’s a special welcome for nursing home guests and youngsters to come along to watch this premier entertainer perform. There’s also some special guests lined up to send the fans home happy.

Plans are well advanced for the Autumn and Winter tour of the UK again with Mary Duff but prior to that in September Dominic and his band return to the dance scene in Ireland for a short tour which takes in venues all over the country, there’s an appearance on TV in the Autumn too with Dominic recently recording an Opry an Luir concert in Newry for TG4 and BBC television. A new single, an EP with Mary and a new album are all planned over the next couple of months and several special Christmas shows are also in the pipeline for this exciting and busy Omagh entertainer.
