Dominican wincharity honour

A Portstewart school has won a regional award for their “marvellous” support of Save The Children for the past 20 years.

Dominican College received the presented with the Rita Rodden Award at the NI regional awards ceremony hosted by the charity at The Templeton Hotel, Templepatrick.

The school was nominated for theaward by Yvonne Orr from the Coleraine branch of Save the Children. Y

vonne wanted to recognise the efforts of generations of pupils from the school who have willingly and unfailingly given of their free time to take part in street collections in local towns for the charity.

The school has also supported the work of Save the Children in its own annual charity appeals.

Yvonne said: “The pupils have been collecting for Save the Children fund for nearly 20 years. As we cover the Portstewart and Coleraine area during Save the Children week we would be totally unable to do this successfully without the help of these Dominican pupils who give so willingly of their time each year.”

Pupils, Brandon Ali, Clare Doherty, Kai Dillenburger-Keenan and Tara McArthur picked up the award on behalf of the school.

Teacher Declan Brolly thanked Yvonne Orr for recognising the school’s effort and said he hoped the support of the charity would continue.
