Donkeys seized by police in Borough

POLICE have reminded the public legal action can be taken if they fail to look after animals.

Two donkeys were seized in an area of Ballymoney Borough on Thursday May 27 and the PSNI handed them over to the USPCA for medical attention.

A PSNI spokesman said there were welfare concerns.

Inspector David Anderson of Ballymoney PSNI told the Times: “We would like to take this opportunity to remind people who have pets and animals including horses and donkeys that they have a legal responsibility to ensure they are well fed and watered and any medical needs attended to and if they don’t they are liable for prosecution for neglect or cruelty.”

He added that in the current economic climate police have received an increase in the number of reports of animals not being properly treated.
