Don’t miss Raft Race this Saturday

This year’s Portrush Raft Race will take place this Saturday (2nd June) at the Harbour in Portrush.

The Raft Race kicks off a great weekend of Jubilee fun in Portrush, with the usual madness of 80 or more rafts all vying to get into the sea first and lift the coveted Raft Race trophy - and help the volunteer crews of Portrush Lifeboat station.

The fun kicks off at 11am with the Junior Raft Race at the Pontoon. This year the Lynn family will presenting the Robert Lynn Trophy in memory of Robert who was a great stalwart of Raft Race and especially Junior Raft Race.

Robert died suddenly earlier this year and this is a fitting memorable for a very popular Portrush man.

There are the usual tours of Portrush Lifeboat with crew on hand and then a couple of new events for the Raft Race in the Harbour. Coleraine Yacht Club is putting on a Dinghy Race and a SUP (Stand Up and Paddle) showcase is being organised courtesy of Causeway Coast Surf Club.

The Raft Race itself starts at 3.15 with live commentary by Radio Ulster’s Alan Simpson followed by music on the quay by the popular local Portrush band Wipeout!
