Double glazing worry

SPEAKING after a Council meeting, Sinn Fein councillor Colum Thompson said: “I am glad that Moyle District Council agreed to my proposal that council write a letter to The Social Development Minister Nelson Mc Causland expressing our shock and concern at his decision to suspend the double glazing replacement scheme in housing executive properties and ask him to reconsider his decision.

“I am well aware that The Department Of Social Development must ensure that we get value for money when using public funds, however the suspension of the window replacement scheme does raise questions.

“Why were the cost issues which the minister has raised in the middle of the scheme not addressed before the scheme began? The minister has stated that despite the suspension he still expects all work to be completed on time. How does the minister expect that this will happen? Will he need to contract extra labour increasing the cost of the project? This scheme was initiated to help tackle fuel poverty, how does suspending the scheme contribute to this effort?” asked the councillor.
