Doubling up on the Twelfth

THE borough will be awash with Orangemen this summer when the Twelfth comes to both Lurgan and Waringstown.

The County Armagh demonstration takes place in Lurgan while County Down’s celebration is coming to Waringstown.

A number of events centred on Brownlow House will take place in July in the lead up to the County Armagh demonstration.

On Thursday, July 1 a Somme parade and wreath laying takes place including a Somme lecture. The dedication and switching on of the lights at the Queen Street arch will be followed by a barbecue.

July 2 sees the Mini-Twelfth, re-enactment and balloon release while on July 3 there will be tours of Brownlow House.

There will be an outdoor band concert on Monday, July 5 and an Orange lecture on July 6.

Songs of praise takes place in Shankill Parish on July 7 and there will be an Ulster Scots night on July 8.

July 9 sees a number of events including a drumming match and entertainment for children.

Community festivals at Queen Street, Mourneview and Avenue Road take place on July 10 followed by the bonfire in Mourneview at 10.30pm.

On Sunday, July 11 the annual Boyne service takes place in Shankill Parish.

The main event - the 320th Anniversary Battle of the Boyne County Armagh Demonstration - arrives at Brownlow House on the Twelfth morning.

Anyone wishing to have a stall in the demonstration field should contact Victor Stewart at 13 Queen Street or download an application form from www.lurgan2010.com There are no more vacancies for burger stalls.

The Waringstown parade’s assembly point will be the Dunkirk Road while the demonstration field is on the Clare Road.

A series of events are also planned for Waringstown to mark the Twelfth celebrations.
